- Mechanical tensioners have ventilated
brake discs and manually actuated hand wheel calipers. The smooth
braking action results from the chain reduction drives that spin
the brake calipers faster than the wheel rotation and multipling
brake torque. This brake system produces smoother braking action
than does designs that have brakes mounted directly to bull wheels.
